Effects of a Flooded Basement

Being the lowest part of the house, the basement is the most subjective to problems relating flood. Residents of a place where rainfall and storms are almost as usual as the morning sun are likely to encounter basement flood. To cope with their local climate condition, residents may take certain measures to solve their flooded basement concerns such as basement waterproofing with the use of French drains, sump pumps and waterproof sealers.

There is no need to convince one why it is important to immediately pay attention to flooded basement problems. Not only do flood waters cause the growth and spread of mildew and mold, they cause deterioration of the house structure as well. If not dealt with immediately, deterioration of the basement structures will lead to weaker house foundation. If the ill condition of the basement spreads to other parts of the house, it will cause greater threat to the safety of the occupants.

The family that lives in a house with flooded basement is susceptible to the development of allergies due to the microorganisms present in the moldy surfaces. Their house will also be susceptible to termite invasion. Their wood furniture may also be affected by the dampness spreading from the wet basement.
