A clogged sink is one of the most common problems in many households, especially in houses that have garbage disposals. You can solve this problem by using a plumbing snake and even a plunger to rig your sink of the clog. It is advisable to turn off any appliances first before doing this. When unclogging drains in your house, you can opt to use home made drain cleaner. This is a solution that consists of one half cup of baking soda mixed with another half a cup of vinegar. All you have to do is to pour the solution down your clogged drain and let it set for at least three hours before letting the water run. There are some circumstances that regular table salt and boiling water can do wonders in unclogging drains.

It is essential that you understand how your plumbing system works in order to conduct routine self inspection and basic troubleshooting such as replacing worn plumbers tape on fixtures that are threaded and tightening screws. You should also be able to determine which plumbing problems can be solved by easy do-it-yourself repairs and which ones require the help of a professional plumber to avoid turning simple problems to major plumbing disaster and ending up spending more money on repairs than you have to.
